A Visual Journey Through the World’s Gargoyles

This collection of gargoyles brings together, in a single space, all the photographs published on the website, from Spain and from the rest of the world. Each image, accompanied by its caption, constitutes a visual testimony of the iconographic diversity of these sculptures: from monsters to mythological animals or human figures watching us from the heights of buildings.

Unlike the sections organized by provinces or countries, this collection is presented in a random order, allowing visitors to casually discover very different figures in the same viewing experience: a medieval demon, a Renaissance grotesque, or an animal gargoyle in dialogue with its architectural setting.

This section offers a global overview of the formal and symbolic richness of gargoyles and highlights the documentary value of a unique photographic archive, the result of years of research and fieldwork.

Each time you visit this page, more than 2,000 gargoyles photographed in churches, monasteries and historic buildings from different parts of the world await you.

The photographs come from the various entries published in our blog, where each image is contextualised within its architectural setting and artistic environment.

No two visits are ever the same. Are you ready to discover them?
