Use of Photographs, Sources and Bibliography

This page explains the conditions for using the photographs published on doloresherrero.com and on the social media accounts associated with the project, as well as the general criteria regarding the sources and bibliography used in the contents.

The aim of this project is the rigorous dissemination of gargoyles, their iconography, function, typology, location and artistic context. To this end, the project combines research, fieldwork, photographic documentation, art-historical analysis and public dissemination.

Use of Photographs

The photographs published on this website and on the associated social media accounts form part of the photographic archive of the Dolores Herrero / doloresherrero.com project, unless expressly stated otherwise.

Many of these images are the result of travel, site visits, access permissions, documentation work, selection, editing and cataloguing. Therefore, their publication on this website, on social media or in the project’s educational and dissemination materials does not imply authorisation for their download, reproduction, editing, reuse or incorporation into third-party content.

Photographs from this archive may not be used without prior, express and written authorisation for:

  • videos, reels, shorts, stories or social media posts;
  • websites, blogs, newsletters or digital platforms;
  • presentations, classes, lectures or teaching materials;
  • academic, educational, editorial or commercial publications;
  • posters, programmes, dossiers, catalogues or promotional materials;
  • image banks, compilations, montages, graphic compositions or derivative materials.

The fact that a photograph appears on the internet, in search engines, on social media, Pinterest, Google or other platforms does not mean that it is free to use.

As a matter of project policy, the use of photographs from the archive is not authorised for third-party reels, TikToks, shorts, stories or other social media publications. Requests for use may be considered for academic contexts, editorial projects, lectures, books, articles or other materials outside the scope of social media publications, always subject to prior, express and written authorisation.

Requesting Authorisation

To request permission to use a photograph from the archive, please write to:

lola@doloresherrero.com

The request should indicate:

  • which photograph you wish to use;
  • where it was found or published;
  • the purpose of use;
  • the medium or platform where it will be published;
  • the intended duration of use;
  • the expected scope of dissemination;
  • whether the use is academic, educational, editorial, commercial or of another nature.

Any authorisation granted will apply only to the specific use requested. Authorisation to use an image in a particular context does not permit its reuse in other media, social networks, publications, videos, derivative materials or new versions without further prior permission.

Credit Line

When the use of a photograph is authorised, the corresponding credit must be clearly and visibly indicated.

The general credit line is:

Photograph: Dolores Herrero Archive / doloresherrero.com

In certain cases, and when expressly indicated, a more specific credit line may be required:

Photograph: [photographer’s name] / Dolores Herrero · doloresherrero.com

In authorised materials, the credit must appear clearly and visibly, in a place directly associated with the photograph whenever possible.

A subsequent, generic or hidden mention does not replace the need for prior authorisation, nor does it authorise the use of photographs from the archive in third-party social media publications.

Sources and Bibliography

The contents of doloresherrero.com are based on art-historical research, specialised bibliography, heritage documentation, direct observation of the works, fieldwork and iconographic analysis.

Where appropriate, the sources, references or bibliography used are indicated in the relevant entries, pages, materials or publications.

The educational or divulgative nature of some contents does not imply a lack of documentation. The purpose of the project is to bring the study of gargoyles closer to a wider audience without renouncing academic rigour.

Citing Website Content

Texts published on this website may be quoted briefly, provided that authorship and source are clearly indicated.

Recommended citation format:

Dolores Herrero, “Title of the Entry or Page”, doloresherrero.com, date accessed.

The brief quotation of a textual fragment does not authorise the full reproduction of entries, pages, photographic galleries, photographic materials or audiovisual content.
