This video continues our analysis of gargoyle typologies, focusing on the figure of the monster. These fantastic and terrifying beings, often grotesquely distorted, served both an apotropaic function and a symbolic role within medieval visual culture. Their presence on ecclesiastical buildings acted as a visual representation of chaos, fear, and the unknown, helping to define the boundaries between the sacred and the profane.
